What is the maximum luggage weight limit for international air travel?

Written on February 28, 2010. Written by admin.

The airlines used to limit you to two bags of 70 pounds each for international travel. Is this still true? I have heard that some airlines are now enforcing a new limit of two bags of 50 pounds each….

Overall, foreign airlines still have the 70 pound rule for checked luggage (ex. Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines).

Domestic airlines, such as Northwest and others have imposed the 50 pound rule, except in certain areas or countries. I believe its still 70 pounds for Manila in the Philippines. When in doubt check with the airlines website and if that doesn’t get you the right info, stick with the 50 pounds.

50 within the US, 70 going abroad. Depending upon your connecting flights it may be best to pack at 50 otherwise you will have to pay extra for the extra weight until you get to your international airline.

Some international connecting flights won’t let you pay extra for anything over 50 pounds, which means you have to figure out what the heck to do with it. This happened to me, luckily a friend was with me who packed light and took some stuff in his bag for me.

50 USA 70 Overseas, however dont load more then 50 lbs in one suitcase or some companies will charge you for back breaking excess weight.
